In the article above, it focuses on more reasons as to why it is essential that we control the amount of guns on our streets and in the hands of our youth. This is a major problem that not everyone is taking serious. Individuals have to realize that the world is larger than one’s backyard and just because you may not see the violence happening close to home, it’s still happening and effecting you in one way or another.

According the the redline project, in the first eight weeks of 2013, there were 52 homicides, with 15 victims between the ages of 13 and 19, according to a RedEye analysis of preliminary crime data. “Last year there were 443 murders with a firearm on the streets of this city, and 65 of those victims were 18 and under,” President Obama said. “So that’s the equivalent of a Newtown every four months.”

Those statistics are scary. This raises questions like, how are teenagers under the age of 18 retrieving guns? Why do they know how to operate some of this machinery? Of those who didn’t die, how many were wounded? Are these kids bringing the guns into the classroom? Are they even in school? These are serious issues and the questions can continue and continue to add up, but for now we have no answers other than gun laws need to be more efficient. It’s one thing when violence takes place, but when there are teenagers and children involved, it always makes the matter a little deeper.

The purpose of the selection for this article was to show that the issue is real, and its a major problem in the most powerful country in the World. Statistics like these are reasons why gun laws need to be more efficient and why we need to ensure that guns are out of the hands in teens. It is simply a ripple effect, one group of guys has one so the next group of guys feels as though they need one to protect themselves and it just continues on.
